① Echo Prison | Self-Discipline under the Gaze of Ghosts

Individuals actively adjust their behavior due to the "imagined gaze of others" even in completely private settings with no actual observers present. From this, I argue that human behavior is not only influenced by real interactions but, more profoundly, shaped by imagined social expectations. Social discipline has permeated the depths of consciousness, becoming an instinct for self-monitoring.   Thus, I have created an experimental short film using Blender, translating self-discipline under such "phantom gazes" into visual symbols. The work aims to reveal how social discipline is internalized as an instinct of self-monitoring, and to provoke discussions on whether the "wall of discipline" serves as armor or a cage, and whether we should break free from it or coexist with it.

I used a 12.5m*3m circular large screen to play videos, creating an immersive video space.

This helps reveal the phenomenon where social discipline is internalized into the instinct of self-supervision, and allows the audience to discuss during the viewing whether the wall of discipline is armor or a cage, and whether it should be broken free from or coexisted with.

② Interstitial Order | Boundaries of Breath

In confined spaces like subway, men often adopt more relaxed and expansive sitting postures, whereas women tend to sit in a more constrained and reserved manner. To uncover the reasons behind this phenomenon, I conducted on-site observations and documentation at subway stations. I outlined and analyzed the postural forms of male and female passengers in the photos I captured, leading me to conclude that there is a correlation between space occupation and gender, prompting my inquiry: What is the relationship between space and gender? Through studying Space, Place, and Gender and subway postures, I concluded: Space is not a static neutral container; it inherently contains a gender order reinforced by spatial practices.

Thus, I designed an interactive projection installation to make people perceive gendered spatial discipline, sparking public reflection on space-gender relations. I metaphorize male sitting postures as cancer cells and female sitting postures as smooth muscle cells—as they respectively exhibit traits of colonial expansion versus adaptive contraction. Using TouchDesigner and Kinect, I created interactive visuals projected on screens.

③ Defect Construction

Curious why livestream e-commerce achieves high conversion with female consumers, I conducted interdisciplinary research. It reveals the core: anchored in female appearance, it frames normal traits as "defects to correct" via rhetoric to stir anxiety, forming a consumption-driven business loop.   Thus, I designed an interactive device with Arduino, Python, displays, and printing modules to simulate this mechanism. It identifies "flaws" in the audience’s body, outputs harsh evaluations and product recommendations, guiding reflection: When livestreams use discipline to frame natural human traits as "consumption-solvable flaws" and erode the authentic self via aesthetic hegemony — does this commercial logic essentially alienate and erode individual self-identity?

④ Crimson Mane Deity Rite | Lunar Zenith Solar Term

In response to the frequent intrusion of wild boars into residential areas for food and the unsustainable, costly, and violent nature of current hunting methods, this project aims to establish a gentle defense system for human-wild boar coexistence. Inspired by historical practices where communities collaboratively deterred "monster-like" threats through festivals, the design proposes Crimson Mane Deity Rite | Lunar Zenith Solar Term—a ritual festival to resolve conflicts.

On the fifteenth day of the ninth lunar month each year, residents provide surplus grains from the autumn harvest to local authorities, who disperse the food via drones along forest boundary zones frequented by wild boars. This intervention aims to reduce boar aggression, fostering peaceful coexistence. I produce a storytelling-driven promotional video visualizes the festival’s narrative, reinforcing the cultural and ecological logic of collaborative, non-violent conflict resolution.

As a non-native, I encountered linguistic micro - discrimination when I came to Shanghai. Through analysis, I believe that there is a co - constructive relationship between linguistic micro - discrimination and the social power structure. Since diamonds can be used to metaphorize the social power structure, I use the visual medium of diamonds to explore this co - constructive relationship.

⑥ E-Ren Shi | Fruit DJ

This project proposes an innovative instrument design merging mechanical utensils with fruits. Through electromagnetic actuators, linkage mechanisms, and Arduino-based sensing, it generates an interactive musical experience. The design adopts fusion jazz as its core genre, with plans to simulate digital audio workflows via open-source hardware prototyping.

"E-Persona Feast" envisions a vibrant fruit carnival where dining becomes a rhythmic spectacle. In this "E-Ren Shi" experience, utensils and fruits transform into musical instruments, orchestrating an improvisational soundscape.Each interaction is a sonic adventure: slicing watermelon might cue the main melody, while shaking spice bottles emulates DJing. Mechanical tools and fruit loops synchronize to craft rhythms—from laid-back grooves to euphoric beats—mirroring the exuberant yet whimsical spirit of E-personalities.

⑦ Cage

Despite rapid advancements in technology, gender discrimination persists, especially in the male-dominated media industry. Media often evaluates women on narrow criteria, focusing excessively on their appearance and linking their value to youth and beauty. This leads to issues like anxiety, self-objectification, and other mental health problems. Advertising further exacerbates this by promoting a singular beauty standard, pushing women towards continuous consumption of beauty products.

In response, I designed a device that satirizes this societal issue. It operates with biases akin to those prevalent in media, making no judgments about men but critically assessing women on their appearance and body metrics, including weight, facial features, age, and dress. The device concludes by printing recommendations for beauty products and suggestions.

After completing the device, I stood on the pressure sensor to experience the process myself. I feel that the text on these receipts, along with the entire setup, is like a cage and a trap, deeply imprisoning me and many other women.The phenomenon I have uncovered has had a widespread impact on the mental health of countless women so far.

⑧ ET YAYING Future Garden

The "ET YAYING Future Garden" pop-up store, centered on brand innovation, creates a futuristic experience space at 627 Huaihai Middle Road, Shanghai. It constructs an experimental site for the ET YAYING sub-brand through four sci-fi chapters: "Long Dream," "Ark," "Hometown," and "Echo." The space utilizes YAYING red and futuristic silver as its main color scheme, complemented by metal panels and mirrored glass to create a technological texture. Peony art installations and interactive imagery form a digital garden where reality and virtuality coexist. By integrating light-shadow programming and AR fitting technology, it shapes a youthful brand image.This project breaks traditional retail models, reconstructs brand DNA with futuristic design, transforms cultural symbols into immersive consumer scenes, and provides an innovative template for the transformation of high-end women's fashion.

By employing spatial narrative and tangible technological interactions, the project not only continues the brand's fundamental pursuit of beauty but also provides a reusable methodology for the youthful transformation of traditional apparel brands. In this garden where virtual and real intertwine, every consumer becomes a co-creator of the ET YAYING future story.

⑨ THING WITH A SOUL | ANGRY BIKE

When my owner first brought me home, I eagerly anticipated every adventure. However, over time, my owner started riding me improperly—using one hand, even playing with their phone while cycling. I felt angry, thinking, "Don't you realize how dangerous this is? What about your safety awareness?" I deeply understand the importance of safety awareness for our journey together.

⑩ Light the Light

This is a school project I worked on during my freshman year, where I gradually explored my own design style and software preferences. Though I was still quite inexperienced at the time, I was eager to express my ideas and showcase them in ways that I enjoyed.This project discusses our unique way of lighting the light.

The theme of this project is "Light the Light," aimed at exploring ways to illuminate light and designing a lamp. Drawing inspiration from jellyfish in the deep sea, I combined fluidity, particles, and smoke to design a futuristic jellyfish lamp. When you shine light on it, it emits rhythmic blue light.Just as the old saying goes: "Give a peach, receive a plum in return."

Final Output: I used two acrylic hemispheres, heated the surface with a heat gun and oven, and then manually pressed to change their shape to resemble the outer surface of a jellyfish. The main body was created using 3D printing, and then LED strips coded with Arduino were placed inside the acrylic cover to make it glow.

Jewish Museum Berlin transcription

In this project, my team members and I conducted research and translation on the Berlin Jewish Museum. We built a model and carried out a comprehensive study on the museum, focusing on Jewish religious history, the history of exile, and related topics. The other detailed content of this project can be found in a PDF book format that I designed and produced. It also includes photographs of the first version of the model we created.

I have presented my research on it in the form of a simple book.

Little Red Riding Hood

Project three is a graphic assignment, and ultimately, it will be realized as a tangible output by integrating the graphics into a product. Taking Little Red Riding Hood as my initial inspiration, I designed a series of graphics. In this project, I honed my skills in graphic design.

I used fan-shaped and semicircular forms as the basic shapes, dividing the story of Little Red Riding Hood into nine segments, and employed pink and red as the primary colors to portray it.
I also turned these nine graphics into two posters.I also used this as a theme to create two cup sleeves, attempting to apply the graphics to merchandise.

Later, the teacher requested us to extend the original theme to content related to the college. I chose to integrate it with the college garden. I maintained the original color scheme and style, creating custom graphics for various flowers in the college garden, along with enticing text to draw people to the garden. I also designed a set of small cards that people can hang on the branches of plants.

I created a display board to showcase small cards and posters on it. I also made cup sleeves and displayed them.

I took many beautiful photos of different plants in the garden of my college and compiled them into a photography book. The aim is to attract people from the college to visit the garden and bring more vitality to it.I also created a video showcasing the garden, which later was continuously played on loop around the college by the teachers.It feels very therapeutic.

This project showcases photography and visual art captured at Tongji University's College of Design and Innovation, where I study. With a keen eye for beauty in the ordinary, these images subtly convey my emotions amidst uncertainties about the future. Ultimately, I turned it into a multifaceted book merging photography, a monthly calendar, poetry, and a diary.

Chairs

On Sujia Tun Road, I often observe a variety of chairs ranging from common long wooden benches to chairs resembling twisted white rods by children's play, and even those designed like stainless steel artificial mountains. I am curious to discover which chairs are beloved and which are disregarded. During my photography, I employed a Canon APS-C sensor camera, an 85mm prime lens, and an 18-45mm zoom lens. Initially, assuming that the more unusually shaped large chairs or those grouped together would remain unoccupied, I favored the zoom lens to capture a wide-angle view. However, as I witnessed children climbing and playing on these peculiar chairs, I shifted to using the 85mm prime lens to focus more on the interaction between the children and the chairs, transitioning from a broader to a more intimate perspective.
